Product description

Prof. Lab PLA Silk Brass 1 kg

Professional silk PLA filament in the Brass shade, which combines the printing ease of classic PLA with a luxurious metallic gloss. Thanks to added additives, the surface of the prints has a satin-glossy character, significantly reduces the visibility of layers, and is ideal for all projects where appearance matters.

Features and Benefits

  • Exceptional metallic gloss The silk effect creates a smooth, satin-glossy surface that resembles real brass. Layers are less visible and models look professional even without post-processing.
  • Easy printing like standard PLA The material is based on PLA, so it does not suffer from significant warping, adheres well to common surfaces, and does not require a closed chamber. Suitable for most FDM/FFF 3D printers.
  • Low shrinkage and excellent layer adhesion Structural and decorative models maintain accurate dimensions and excellent mechanical bonding of layers. Prints are stable and durable for common use.
  • Without significant odor Compared to materials like ABS, PLA Silk is practically odorless, suitable for printing in home or office environments (while maintaining basic ventilation).
  • Ideal for aesthetic projects The brass shade is perfect for:
    • statues, busts, figurines, character models
    • awards, medals, trophies, plaques
    • interior decorations, vases, design accessories
    • cosplay and props with a metallic look
    • logos, signs, and advertising elements

Recommended printing parameters

Specific values may vary slightly depending on the printer and cooling – we recommend printing a temperature tower and fine-tuning the parameters.

  • Nozzle temperature: 210–240 °C
  • Bed temperature: 30–60 °C (50 °C is often sufficient; some surfaces can even work without heating)
  • Printing speed: 40–70 mm/s for best gloss (can go up to ~100 mm/s, but surface quality may decrease)
  • Cooling: 50–100 % (usually higher cooling for high gloss)
  • Nozzle diameter: ≥ 0.4 mm

Tips for a perfect silk surface

  • For a more pronounced gloss, slightly increase the nozzle temperature within the recommended range and decrease the printing speed.
  • Print at a constant speed and avoid extremely low layers for very small details that can cause overheating.
  • Ensure the filament is dry – PLA Silk is more sensitive to moisture, which can degrade the surface.

Usage and recommendations

  • Beginners: Ideal material for first aesthetic projects – easy to print, does not require special conditions, and provides an impressive result.
  • Advanced users and pros: Suitable for presentation models, design prototypes, gift items, and any print where surface appearance is crucial.
  • Filament maintenance:
    • Store in a dry place, ideally in a sealable bag/box with desiccant.
    • At signs of bubbles or a matte surface on the model, dry the filament (e.g., 40–50 °C for several hours in a filament dryer).

Safety and environment

PLA Silk is based on PLA, which is a bioplastic made from renewable resources (e.g., corn starch). The material is:

  • free of halogen additives, suitable for common home and office printing,
  • without significant odor under standard use,
  • mechanically stable for decorative and lightly stressed parts.

It is not intended for high-temperature applications (car interior in direct sunlight, industrial plants) or for long-term mechanically extremely stressed parts.

Key features:

  • Silk brass PLA filament with a luxurious metallic gloss
  • Easy printing – properties similar to classic PLA, suitable for beginners
  • Low shrinkage and excellent layer adhesion for dimensionally accurate prints
  • Significantly reduces layer visibility thanks to the satin-smooth surface
  • Ideal for decorations, figurines, trophies, cosplay, and design prototypes
  • Compatible with most desktop FDM/FFF 3D printers with 1.75 mm diameter
